ICT Integration in South African Classrooms

PHASE 1

How will I assist teachers with ICT Integration in their classrooms:

Smartphones are very helpful, because they assist us with collecting, organizing and presenting large amounts of information. I would love to educate the teachers on ways to use their smartphones more effectively in the classroom. I will show them how to use the wifi to access the internet using their smartphones. This will help them teach more successfully and be more constructive in their classrooms. I will introduce them to apps such as Bento.

Activities & apps to implement ICT in our classrooms:

• Bento - This app will assist them with organisation. It helps with keeping track of contacts, upcoming events, due dates and projects.

• Edmodo - This app helps teachers stay connected with each other.
• Flashcards* - This will enable teachers to download and create flashcards to use in their lessons.
• TeacherKit - This will assist teachers with keeping track of things like grades and attendance.
• Nearpod - This app helps teachers by providing effective lessons. 

Teacher training:

Teachers will gather in the afternoons after school. At these meetings the representatives of the ICT Champions will provide very helpful sessions based on each ICT tool, one at a time. We will be there to assist teachers to be the most successful that they can be. 

                                                                                                                                                                      

PHASE 2

How will I assist teachers with ICT Integration in their classrooms:

Having more resources, such as the tablet, laptop and data projector, will boost the effectiveness of our ICT Integration. We will now be able to teach the educators a lot more about the effective use of technology in the classroom. We will teach them about apps like Edpuzzle and Scratch

Activities & apps to implement ICT in our classrooms:

• Edpuzzle - Can be used to download useful videos and quizzes for learners to do.
• Scratch - Can be a very useful app, as teachers can use it to create animations of lessons and project it via the data projector. Learners will learn more effectively through the animations.
• SmartDot - Will be used when projecting PowerPoint presentations as it can be used as a remote or even as a laser pointer.
• ChatterPix - Is very effective and could be an app possibly used in the future. It animates any image and you can make it talk, too.
• Thinglink - Will be useful as it is an interactive app with many fun classroom activities.

Teacher training:

Teachers will have similar meetings as in phase 1. We will just spend more time on each ICT Tool in Phase 2, to ensure that each teacher is set up for success. We will train them how to use the different tools via presentations and many examples. We will definitely cater for questions as well so that each teacher will have an opportunity to get clarity on the ICT Tools.
